Honored to be invited to this small-group dialog with US Ambassador-at-Large Catherine Russell, who formerly served as Deputy Assistant to President Obama, and with #USJC president Irene Hirano Inouye. Ambassador Russell kindly shared her thoughts on my question on how to empower women leveraging the opportunity to host the 2020 Games!

Also enjoyed TOMODACHI seminar with amazing speakers such as MetLife Executive Vice President Maria Morris, who delivered strong and encouraging messages including “D&I is strategic imperative for the company” and “If someone else thinks you can do it, the chances are you can do it.”

It was inspiring and great that the “WAW 2014 – World Assembly for Women in Tokyo” -Shine Weeks- initiative involves such amazing global officials and professionals, and the only thing I wonder is;

– Do we Japanese women really need to “shine”?

We are not planets in the universe and I guess many are already shining beautifully enough at least for my mentors and friends. Maybe it’s best to utilize this movement as an opportunity for Japanese government and society to seriously think about next year’s initiative copy – What Japan should expect women instead of simply shining – so the messages from the country can align with those of global communities.
